Beardsley Pottery

Scott and Garnet Beardsley - photo by Fireweed

Brushwork is an integral part of the decorative process for many potters, so it's no surprise that the techniques employed by Denman aritsans are as diverse as the ceramic pieces they produce. Garnet Beardsley is only half-joking when she suggests that her highly detailed renderiings on the ceramic surface require brushes as fine as "ant legs!" Her amazing coffee mugs, delicately adorned with chickadees, dogs, cats and other whimsical creatures prove the necessity of a steady hand and comprehension of perspective on a curved surface.

Partner Scott Beardsley draws on a host of completely different characters from his own vivid imagination, including painting comical portraits on clay wall hangings that incorporate a suitably colorful glaze pallet.
